Job Description
Senior Medical Science Liaison Rare diseases
On behalf of our client, a global, science-driven biopharmaceutical company preparing to launch an innovative, next-in-class oral therapy in a rare cardiovascular indication, Smelt.nl is looking for a Senior Therapeutic Medical Scientist (Medical Science Liaison) for the Netherlands. Reporting to the Associate Medical Director, you will be a key field-based scientific resource for healthcare providers, patients, industry partners and internal colleagues — and the local face of a market launch, working closely with a small international team.
Inhoud van de functie
- dentify and engage national, regional and local KOLs at cardiomyopathy expert centres, building the Dutch network largely from scratch
- Maintain and grow scientific relationships with hospital- and office-based HCPs (physicians, genetic counsellors, nurses, pharmacists, hospital teams, investigators) to expand research, advisory and educational partnerships
- Organize and support advisory boards, clinical investigator meetings and educational grant / investigator-initiated program (IIP) requests
- Educate across the full patient pathway — specialists, pharmacists and GPs/practice nurses — reflecting how prescribing responsibility shifts between them
- Serve as the primary external Medical Affairs representative for key stakeholders in your territory, and as a scientific expert at conferences and meetings nationally and, when needed, across Europe
- Ensure prompt handling of medical information requests and represent field insights internally to shape strategy, messaging and materials
- Support and train colleagues, including a small local commercial team, on disease area and product knowledge
- Support clinical development programs as point of contact for investigators, investigator-initiated research and registries
- Track competitive intelligence and scientific developments, and document activities accurately within company systems
What will you bring
- An advanced degree in biomedical sciences (MD, PharmD, PhD, or Bachelor's + Master's in life sciences)
- 3+ years of field experience as a Medical Science Liaison, Medical Advisor or Medical Manager in biotech/pharma, with a demonstrated track record in Medical Affairs
- Experience in cardiovascular disease (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy/heart failure) and/or rare diseases is a strong plus
- A proven track record preparing and executing a product launch, ideally pre- through post-launch
- Experience working in a small, single- or two-person country team reporting into an international/remote structure
- In-depth knowledge of Medical Affairs processes, applicable pharmaceutical regulations and clinical terminology, and a solid grasp of the broader drug development process
- A genuine, solution-focused self-starter mentality — able to build credibility and relationships from zero and thrive in a small team
- Excellent analytical, presentation and interpersonal skills, with strong business acumen and emotional intelligence
- Native-level Dutch and strong proficiency in English
- A valid driver's licence and willingness to travel up to 80%, mainly within the Netherlands with occasional international travel
What does the client offer
- A high-impact, highly autonomous role at the heart of a market launch, with direct influence on strategy and execution from day one
- The opportunity to build a therapeutic area presence in the Netherlands essentially from scratch, backed by an international organization and close cross-functional relationships across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development and Commercial
- High visibility within the organization and close collaboration with a small, focused local and international team
- A competitive employment package in line with the seniority and scope of the role
